Summer in the City

I’ve always felt Columbus is most beautiful in summer. Being on the western edge of the time zone means our sunsets occur very late. The late sunset makes for beautiful evenings and night life. The city is fully alive in summer. Our parks are packed with life. People and flowers abound everywhere. The late evening light also makes for amazing photos. For example, we had the perfect light for Maryn & Kyle’s Capitol Square and Columbus Park of Roses engagement photos.

We started at Capitol Square in downtown Columbus. The white limestone architecture provides a dramatic backdrop for photos. It lends a sense of structure and elegance that I love. The gardens surrounding the Capitol also help to flood the photos with color. It was this very elegance that drew Maryn & Kyle to Capitol Square for their engagement photos.

Park of Roses Engagement Photos

IAs the sun moved closer to setting, it was time for a change of location. We rushed across the city to reach the Columbus Park of Roses in time for sunset. When I was growing up, my family always visited the Park of Roses. The park was relatively close to our house, so it was convenient. At that time, the park was just one simple rose garden.

Now the Park of Roses is so much more. The central rose garden is still there, but the park has exploded in scale. Smaller gardens now ring the central rose garden. There is a kitchen garden filled with culinary herbs. A suburban garden shows off typical landscape plantings. Gazebos and pergolas dot the landscape. The Park of Roses has become such a cool spot for engagement photos.

ILooking back over Maryn & Kyle’s engagement photos, I am most struck by the sunset photos at the Park of Roses. We caught the setting sun just right.
