Something a little new

Mohammed called me just a couple weeks in advance of his planned surprise wedding proposal. He wanted a photographer there to capture his & Roseil’s special moment. I get called frequently for surprise proposals. I absolutely love capturing them, and try to help wheneven I can. Thankfully, I was available for the date Mohammed had in mind. Through the planning process, I had an idea. It was acutally an old idea, but I finally decided to give it voice. What if we did the surprise proposal on one day, and then reconvened on another day a proper engagement session? Mohammed loved the idea and knew Roseil would as well. So we planned the proposal, with Capitol Square engagement photos to follow soon after.

I call it a split session and it solves a big problem. The proposals I capture are by necessity a surprise. This often means that one party to the proposal doesn’t know what is happening, and therefore doesn’t get to prepare in advance. Fair enough. The split session means we take the time normally alotted for a single engagement session and divide it in two. One the first day, we have the proposal. One the second (pre-planned) day, we have a more typical engagement session. The benefit is that after the proposal, we other partner can now plan for the session.

Capitol Square Engagement Photos

When we reconvened following the proposal, I think we caught Capitol Square on the perfect day. The gardens surrounding the Capitol were lush green and filled with flowers. In particular, the tea roses made for a fantastic backdrop. The light that day was phenominal as well. High, thin clouds made for soft light everywhere, which the occasional hint of direct sunlight. Make sure the check out the engagement section of the blog for additional Capitol Square engagement sessions. It’s a location that my clients and I love.
