Erin & Dan – Downtown Cleveland Wedding at West 78th Street Studios

Normally April means never ending rain, clouds and temperatures that hover between cold or mildly tolerable. Strange enough, our spring of rebirth has been quite pretty. No late frosts knocking back the magnolias and plenty of sunshine. For Erin and Dan, our weather was a little ray of luck for their beautiful wedding. The day was beaming with sun and things could not have been more perfect.

The wedding itself was held at a rather new location in Cleveland – the West 78th Street Studios. Think of it like a vintage warehouse filled with some of the best art studios in the city, plus larger event spaces for weddings. Erin and Dan smartly scheduled the ceremony upstairs and reception downstairs to create a comfortable and cohesive experience for their guests.

What else is there to love about their wedding? I love how Erin and Dan gave each other matching love notes, completely by accident. I really enjoyed walking with Dan to the first look, where he saw his beautiful bride for the first time as she emerged from an elevator. Their friends were awesome, and the locations were once-in-a-lifetime perfect, like the Federal Reserve vault. We even got photos with Superman, but those are just for Erin and Dan.

Below are just a few highlights to enjoy. I do want to offer a special thanks to the team at Something New Entertainment. AJ and Justin made the entire night that much more special. Also, big thanks to Hilary Gent of smARTspace/Hedge for making sure everything ran tick-tock.

Based on those last couple shots, I think Erin and Dan both had a blast. That’s all for today. To Erin and Dan, thank you! For everyone else, we’ll be back with more. The wedding season is just getting started.

Sarah & John – Engagement session by the lake

Sarah and John found me first. The timing for our introduction was just right. We chatted via email and on the phone about their upcoming wedding in Cleveland. Sight unseen, they decided to book me. Admittedly, it was a little rushed because we were excited to work with each other and didn’t want to loose the opportunity. Flash forward a few weeks and we were meeting in person for the first time. Sarah and John were in their car, sitting in my drive way. I was packed and ready to, so we headed off for their engagement session. I think when John met Sarah the timing was just right as well.

Sarah and John first met through work, which can be a sticky situation, but the timing worked perfectly. As they got to know each other, their work roles diverged, taking them in different directions. As their personal relationship came together, their work connection drifted apart. The timing worked just perfectly.

And they are perfect together – both beautiful, both smart, and both funny. Sarah and John’s relationship even has the little things, like their height. Sarah is just the right height to comfortably lean on John’s shoulder.

For Sarah and John’s engagement session, we chose to soak up the summer near the lake. We were briefly joined by their two dogs, so we visited a dog park in Rocky River. Then we headed off to downtown Cleveland for a little more formality. The light was brilliant, so I shot most of the engagement session on film.

Below are just a few favorites featuring Sarah and John (and a little of Reggie White too) –

Love Sarah’s dress. She made some great choices for the day.

Above – a little magic. I wanted some sun flare, but I didn’t expect this much. However, it’s a happy accident. I love, love, love the results.

As the sunset, it added just a little extra pop that you can see above and below.

We ended the day on a point sticking out into Lake Erie. We almost lost the light as the sun set, but we managed to catch the last peachy tones of the day.

The last photo is so quiet and still. I absolutely love it. While this may be the last photo, it kinda wasn’t the end of the session. After the engagement session, I headed out to dinner with Brooke. We just so happened to bump into Sarah and John again, which gave us a chance to meet the entire family. It was such a treat to meet the family before the wedding. It makes me anticipate Sarah and John’s wedding that much more. Can’t wait!

Summer Family Portraits in Downtown Cleveland

It’s not often I have a chance to do a nice family portrait session. And it’s even more rare to do a session for a friend. That’s why I was so excited to work with my friend, Sarah. She was looking to do some family photos with her wife Melissa and son Julian, and I jumped at the opportunity. By why be so excited about a simple family session?

To understand, we have to take a little step back to how I know Sarah in the first place. Being a wedding photographer, I have to work with many different people nearly every weekend. Typically, there is very little consistency and you meet new people all the time. Developing solid relationships with other people contributing to a wedding is important. And that’s one way I know Sarah. We’ve worked with each other on a few different weddings. I’m always happy to arrive and see Sarah working her hair styling magic. She’s just a dream to work with. And I think she feels the same way. She’s more than happy to refer work my way.

Speaking of which, there are other ways I know Sarah and Melissa as well. In December, I will see Melissa again at her sister’s wedding thanks to Sarah. Also, I have worked with Sarah’s cousin before. So all the more reason that giving back is important. If I have the chance to help a friend, I’ll take it. And Sarah feels the same, which is great for both of us. I’m certainly looking forward to seeing their family again, but for now, enjoy just a few favorites from their loving family portrait session in downtown Cleveland –

Julian was a real dream to work with. He was not camera shy at all, and filled with energy.

I think the last one on the left might be my favorite. Their are many other portraits from this session, but we’ll save those just for the family. Again, and million thanks to Sarah and Melissa for making Sunday so much fun. Can’t wait to see you both again!
