Kyra & Nick – A Session on Film for a Growing Family

Sometimes you have to take a risk. The risk can be big or small – but it’s still a risk. Kyra & Nick’s family session at their home in Granville was just around the corner, but the weather was looking bad. Huge storms were gathering on the horizon that could wreck their family session. Because I was driving from Cleveland to Granville (near Columbus) for their session, we had to make a decision about the weather rather early. After some back and forth over the phone, Nick made the call to continue with the session as planned. We were going to risk it!

The sky poured during the two hour drive to their home. The rain was so relentless that I had to slow down at points. As I pulled into the Columbus area, the weather began to clear. And then the sun came out as I reached Granville. The temperature shot up and it was actually nice outside. Turns out, the risk was worth it.

I think the risk was certainly worth it for Kyra and Nick as well. They initially met at a bar while in college, which can be risky in itself. They started talking and realized they shared interests. Nick took a risk and asked Kyra on a date. One date turned into the next, and then a next, and before long it was time to propose.

Being a Gentleman (capital G), Nick discussed marriage with Kyra’s family first. With permission enthusiastically granted, a family ring was to Nick to use for the engagement. Shortly thereafter, Nick and Kyra were in Philadelphia for a cousin’s wedding. Just before the wedding, Nick took another risk. While walking through downtown, they stopped in a small city park. Nick took a knee and proposed. Of course we wouldn’t be here today unless Kyra said yes. Sooo many risks in life are so worth taking.

Now, the wedding is just around the corner and they have a lovely growing family. Holden, the newest addition, is growing so fast. Below are just a few highlights from their blended engagement and family session, joined in by their two awesome dogs. I certainly hope you enjoy these little highlights.

PS – The weather did not hold out for the entire session. We did have to retreat inside momentarily, but I love the inside photos just as much as the outdoor ones.

A Ritz Carlton Cleveland Wedding in Pastel Pink

Some days just run too smoothly. I end up glancing over my shoulder, looking nervously out of the corner of my eye for some surprise that will never come. It’s a feeling of uneasy anticipation. For Aria and Jeff’s Ritz Carlton Cleveland wedding in downtown, I had this very feeling all day long. The day was simply progressing too perfectly and I was constantly anticipating an emergency.

In the morning, the sun was shining bright as I pulled up to Aria’s home. The weather outside was equally as beautiful as Aria and her bridesmaids inside the house. Once inside, I met everyone quickly and set to work photographing all the little details. Upstairs hung Aria’s gorgeous wedding dress and long, pink bridesmaids gowns. Downstairs the ladies hurried about, getting ready for Aria’s big wedding. Before long, we were all out the door again. The sun still shown, but clouds began to gather on the horizon.

We safely reached St. Noel Church and we all ran inside. Within minutes, the clouds grew dark and the sky let loose a deluge. Throughout the beautiful ceremony, I could hear the thick rain falling over the roof, down the gutters and out onto the street. The rain softened towards the end of the ceremony. By the time we were ready to exit, the rain had long gone. Even the sidewalks were beginning to dry.

Thunderstorms were still in the area, so we had to take a little risk for the outside portraits. We could have used the “emergency rain plan”, but we decide to take a risk and head for the Cleveland Museum of Art. Once there, it became clear that everything would be fine. The clouds were clearing and the sun shined again. By this point, the scheduled had so much extra time that we could all relax and have fun during the portraits. It was at this point that I constantly began checking over my shoulder for some emergency, which would never come.

For Aria and Jeff, the day could not have been more perfect either. The wedding was scheduled just a couple weeks prior to their 10-year anniversary. Nearly one year prior, Jeff had proposed to Aria on their nine-year anniversary. They had just spent the day together at Cedar Point. Back at home after Cedar Point and a little exhausted, Jeff took a knee and proposed to Aria. What an absolutely perfect way to spend an anniversary and to propose.

Below are just a few highlights from this faultless Ritz Carlton Cleveland wedding, mostly captured on film. I certainly hope you enjoy. For Aria & Jeff – thank you so much for having me as part of your wedding day. Working with you has been truly perfect.

Chicago History Museum Wedding Published by Elizabeth Anne Designs

Today I am thrilled to be reliving Kristin & Max’s Chicago History Museum wedding. Chicago-based Elizabeth Anne Designs is one of my favorite wedding blogs and they just featured Kristin & Max’s gorgeous wedding from last summer. Captured mostly on film in downtown Chicago, it’s one of my favorite weddings ever. Partially because the wedding was in my old city, but also because of all the wonderful people involved. In fact, I could almost count Kristin as family. Take a few minutes to check out the feature on Elizabeth Anne Designs here.

Below are just a few highlights from the wedding. If you want the full details, you can see a complete set from Kristin & Max’s Chicago History Museum wedding. Also, we did a destination engagement session together which is worth a look as well. Enjoy!
