Summer Family Portraits in Downtown Cleveland

It’s not often I have a chance to do a nice family portrait session. And it’s even more rare to do a session for a friend. That’s why I was so excited to work with my friend, Sarah. She was looking to do some family photos with her wife Melissa and son Julian, and I jumped at the opportunity. By why be so excited about a simple family session?

To understand, we have to take a little step back to how I know Sarah in the first place. Being a wedding photographer, I have to work with many different people nearly every weekend. Typically, there is very little consistency and you meet new people all the time. Developing solid relationships with other people contributing to a wedding is important. And that’s one way I know Sarah. We’ve worked with each other on a few different weddings. I’m always happy to arrive and see Sarah working her hair styling magic. She’s just a dream to work with. And I think she feels the same way. She’s more than happy to refer work my way.

Speaking of which, there are other ways I know Sarah and Melissa as well. In December, I will see Melissa again at her sister’s wedding thanks to Sarah. Also, I have worked with Sarah’s cousin before. So all the more reason that giving back is important. If I have the chance to help a friend, I’ll take it. And Sarah feels the same, which is great for both of us. I’m certainly looking forward to seeing their family again, but for now, enjoy just a few favorites from their loving family portrait session in downtown Cleveland –

Julian was a real dream to work with. He was not camera shy at all, and filled with energy.

I think the last one on the left might be my favorite. Their are many other portraits from this session, but we’ll save those just for the family. Again, and million thanks to Sarah and Melissa for making Sunday so much fun. Can’t wait to see you both again!

Laura & John’s Epic Wedding – THE LEAK #3 – At First Look

After a short break, it’s time to continue THE LEAK from Laura and John’s most epic wedding. THE LEAK is a special series I am doing just for Laura and John because…well…they’re awesome. Need another reason? Also, the posts are short and fast and feature just one portion of their day. If you’ve missed prior leaks, you can see the rest right here. Up for today are just a few special photos from their first look.

Like many of my clients, Laura and John chose to do a first look before their wedding ceremony at St. Mark’s Coptic Church. The first look was simply organized at John’s sisters house.

So without delay, below are just a few favorites –

That last one is just for fun. Yes, that is really a fish face and I love John’s expression. They are such a fun couple. The type of crazy couple that everyone needs as friends. That’s all for today. Changes are good that their will be another LEAK tomorrow. Definitely check back soon!

Katie & Matt – Morning Engagement at Craighead Farm

Katie was responsible for finding the location, and it was perfection! She hunted, called contacts and finally secured access to Craighead Farm in Novelty, Ohio. The farm breeds champion hunting and jumping horses. Fortunately, I also had a small connection to the farm. While I’m not an equestrian, my family is filled with passionate hunters and jumpers. When I arrived, I was lucky enough to bump into the owner. We shared a few stories and then I met up with Katie and Matt.

They were waiting by the barn. It had been some time since we had seen each other. We first met while they were visiting Ohio. Today, they were back in town from Chicago for their engagement session and wedding shower. As we wandered the grounds, we chatted about their upcoming wedding, how they met, and life in Chicago. I’m a former Chicagoan, so I was keen to learn what has changed.

Needless to say, the session went perfectly. Every turn around the farm reveals a cool new spot. I think I lost it completely when I spotted the dock hanging over the water.

Below are just a few personal favorites.

At the front of the property is a beautifully ornate English garden. Katie and Matt looked simply perfect under the dogwood.

We spotted the willow tree from across the pond. It was smaller than I first thought, but everyone looks good under a willow tree.

I like ending on a last moment of fun. That’s all for today. For Katie and Matt, I simply can’t wait for your wedding. It’s going to be awesome. Check back soon as we will have many more weddings and engagement sessions coming.
