Megan & Pezh – A Perfect Autumn Engagement Captured on Film

How they found me, I do not know. It’s actually kind of strange. Megan lives out of state and they are getting married in her home town, Pensacola, Florida. Still to this day, I’m not entirely certainly why they wanted to do an engagement session at Holden Arboretum, near Cleveland. This is a healthcare city, and they’re both doctors. Maybe they met here. Truthfully, it matters not. The session could not have come out better, and at the height of autumn.

We met at Holden Arboretum near the visitor’s center. My lovely wife Brooke decided to join in, mostly so she could see Holden for the first time. We’ve been members forever, but this was her first chance to visit. Megan and Pezh arrived with their lovely dogs and a friend to handle to pooches. With Megan and Pezh being dermatologists, I’m sure you won’t be surprised to learn their dogs are named after topical ointments. No seriously, one is named Retin-A. I kid you not. As always, we started off with the furry friends, who were perfectly stars. After the dogs had their moment, it was down to just Megan and Pezh.

We spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around Holden, stopping here and there to capture a few frames on film. It just seemed like the perfect day for an all-film engagement session. We chatted about their current work and their upcoming wedding. We share a lot in common. For instance, I’m from a deeply Southern family. My mama has retired to Pensacola, where Megan and Pezh will have their wedding in November. At this point, I know Pensacola pretty well. It’s a gorgeous Spanish-era city and the perfect setting for a wedding.

We even took the time to jump over to Patterson Fruit Farm to capture some rather special photos. On the list was a photo for their Save the Date card. We also wanted a quick photo among the apple trees, all of which you can enjoy below.

Megan and Pezh really got lucky. The day of their engagement session was also the height of the fall color. Every leaf was so saturated with color that they looked to glow. We had to celebrate a little. The last frame took three tries, but we got it. That is all for today, but stop back soon. More sessions are coming.

Samantha & Scott – Baldwin-Wallace University Engagement Session

You ever have one of those days where everything seems to go perfectly? Your favorite music is on the radio. You just happen to catch every green light. Even the weather is gorgeous. It just seems like this was one of those days. I was planning to meet Samantha and Scott at Baldwin-Wallace University for their engagement session. I was really early because of that whole green light thing. Finding the Beastie Boys on the radio set me in a great mood. It was warm and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Then along came Samantha & Scott – looking perfect and happy.

That morning I had decided Samantha and Scott’s engagement session would be a film-only session. This makes little difference to my clients. The outcome can be pretty similar. But using film inspires me. I love the brightness, colors, and quality. Film makes me work that much harder, and this was the perfect session for it. Each frame must be seriously earned, because I can’t just snap away. Patience and planning become the skill. Sure I brought the digital camera, but mostly so I could show some samples to Samantha & Scott.

As we wondered around the campus, they told me a little about how they had met. I think Samantha knew of Scott, and then they happened to share a nutrition class. Maybe it was PhysEd. At any rate, he caught her eye first. Before long, she had caught his as well. They are both very athletic people. Scott played sports for Baldwin-Wallace and has since gone on to become trainer in baseball. Unfortunately, this means Samantha and Scott now live on separate ends of the country. You can tell that the extra distance makes time together that much richer. Because the session was a special event, we made sure to stop by some favorite locations – the training facility, the place where they had their first date, and over by the lake.

Even more exciting is their upcoming wedding. They’ve picked an amazing location, and one of my personal favorites. I’m certainly looking forward to it. Now, the film –

I still can’t get over the light at sunset. Even though it was autumn, it was warm and sunny. More is coming soon, so definitely stop back again!

Emily & Greg – Two Moments in Time Under the Slowly Falling Snow

I’m going a little simple today. Emily and Greg recently had their engagement session. It was simple beautiful. For most of the session we were shooting under the slowly falling snow just after Christmas. Above are just two moments, captured on film.

I’m really looking forward to their wedding, which is coming up in less than two months. Hopefully we won’t have any snow for their early March wedding. On another note, I’m changing up some of the blog layout. Gone is the logo at the bottom of each photo. I rather like the more simplistic approach.
