PUBLISHED – A Styled Maternity Session Featured by On To Baby

The past few weeks have been amazingly productive around the office. I’ve launched an all-new website with some amazing new features. I’ve also been shooting like mad and getting some really thrilling results – work of which I’m very proud. I’ve also been fortunate enough to be featured in quite a few online and printed publications lately. Entouriste, 100 Layer Cake, PDN and now On To Baby has featured my work in the last month.

Speaking of On To Baby, a styled maternity session captured while in California was recently featured. To say that I’m thrilled to be included would be an understatement! The session was part of Caroline Tran’s Propel Workshop and the feature includes my work, as well as amazing work from other contributors. Of course, the session was expertly styled by Wilmarose at Lovely Jubilee, without whom the results wouldn’t be the same. A Styled Maternity Session Captured on Film

Back today with more from January. It almost seems like I will never get caught up on my blogging, but I am nearing the finish line. As you may recall from early posts, I visited California in January for a very special photography workshop. I joined in with ten other photographers as part of Caroline Tran’s Propel Workshop series. All of us lived, ate and shot together for three straight days. Part of the shooting included the gorgeous styled maternity session you see below.

Kym, the mom-to-be, is also an amazing photographer. She was kind enough to donate her time for us, and she was a dream to work with. I love that you can see her tattoos below, which really help to make the photos personal. Also, huge thanks to WilmaRose from Lovely Jubilee for the perfect styling and Ngoc from Skybox Events for helping to organize then entire week. Simply put, their help was priceless.

Like all of the photos I shot in California, these too were captured on film. Film and California light are like eggs and bacon – they just go together perfectly. So, here are a few highlights to enjoy –

Molly & Dave – A Winter Maternity Session in Gates Mills

It’s amazing how things can change over such a short period of time. It seems like just yesterday I was photographing Molly and Dave’s wedding. In truth, it really wasn’t that long ago. They were married in February, 2012. Just recently, they celebrated their 1 year wedding anniversary. For this reason, I was a little surprised, and elated, when they called me for a maternity session. Molly is essentially nine months along, and due any moment. So, we had to hurry.

Being winter, we decided to start inside their home and then work outside in the Gates Mills neighborhood. For me, this also made the session very personal. I think capturing a personal subject should be done in a personal place. And their gorgeous home is as good a place as any. It’s warm, beautiful and quaint.

We then headed outside and into the deep snow. We haven’t had much snow in Cleveland this year, but we had plenty on this particular day. We spent a few minutes outside their home before heading over to the Gates Mills Gardening Club. The small white barn and house made a great backdrop for the snowy weather. Below are just a few favorites, which I am excited to share today.

The last photo above is one of my personal favorites. I know – it’s a photo of a photo. However, it’s so cool that modern technology allows us to “see” our children before they even come into the world. A huge thanks to Molly and Dave for inviting me to briefly join their growing family once more. And thanks to Bella, the dog, for tolerating my presence again.
