Darby House Wedding In Spectacular Mid-Century Modern Style
Sisters & Shared Experience
That is Lexi in the little black dress, sister to Abby and Maid of Honor. I photographed Lexi’s wedding a couple years ago. This year I have photographed two sisters of prior clients. I take a little pride in that fact. Their weddings were worlds apart despite being sisters. Abby & Ben’s Darby House wedding was a classic mid-century modern masterpiece, with ladies in black dresses and gentlemen in slim-cut tuxedos.
Abby and I shared something else as well. Her wedding was on my exact anniversary date. My wife and I normally treat our wedding anniversary with some reverence. Typically we travel or do something special. My wife and I agreed to move our celebrations only because of my history with Abby’s family.
If you are unfamiliar, the Darby House is just west of Columbus. It is a mid-century mansion perched deep inside a river valley. The patio behind the house is on the river bank and hosts outdoor wedding ceremonies. The property is massive. The house is surrounded by a small wood, but the remainder of the landscape is rolling farm land, which is mostly open grass fields.
September is for Darby House Weddings
You should forget May weddings. You might as well forget October too. September is the best month for weddings. While it is especially true for the Darby House, September weddings have a secret benefit. The secret is the sunset time. Most weddings have fairly similar schedules, despite everything else being unique. In September, the time for Bride & Groom portraits usually aligns perfectly with sunset. The gorgeous light in these photos is September at it’s best.

Viking Hats
The last photo of Abby & Ben in viking hats was completely unexpected. I simply turned around and they struck a pose at the photo booth. I thought it was fitting and funny way to end this feature. If you are planning your own Darby House Wedding, bring the viking hats and let’s connect. Just please don’t schedule for Septeber 16th.
